1. Check data health before performance

Confirm the latest complete date, look for known Search Console anomalies, and note migrations, outages, campaigns, or launches. If the data window is incomplete or a logging issue overlaps it, label the limitation before interpreting movement.

02

2. Find the portfolio-level signal

Compare equal periods and rank properties by absolute click change. Percentage swings from tiny baselines are visually dramatic but often operationally irrelevant. Ask which movement changes the portfolio outcome, then narrow the investigation to that property.

03

3. Move from property to page to query

Find the pages responsible for most of the gain or loss. Within each page, compare queries: did visibility fall, did CTR weaken at a similar position, or did demand change? Segment further only when device, country, or search appearance can separate competing explanations.

04

4. Turn evidence into a bounded action

Write one sentence that includes the observed change, the evidence, the proposed action, and the date you will review it. A useful task might refresh a snippet for a high-impression page, repair internal discovery for an important URL, or investigate a template-specific decline. Avoid vague tasks such as ‘improve SEO.’
